The Philosophy minor at Ramapo College is an opportunity to develop skills in the field of critical inquiry, which will complement any major program of study. Students with a minor in Philosophy will be better prepared to work in their major fields because rigorous analysis, ethical reasoning, and logical clarity are keys to all intellectual and professional endeavors.
Minors in Philosophy take 2 required courses (course - Introduction to Logic and course - World Wisdom Traditions), plus 3 additional Philosophy (PHIL) courses.
A program is also offered.
Learning Goals and Outcomes
Goal 1: Understand metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics by closely reading the major figures and problems of those subjects.
Outcome 1.1 Students should be able to describe the major figures and problems of ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology.
Goal 2: Employ the diverse methods of philosophical argument, including logic, observation, contemplation, and dialogue.
Outcome 2.1 Students should be able to understand and use induction and deduction in formal and informal logical analysis.
