INTRODUCTION TO ACTING

Theater (THEA) Contemporary Arts

Course Description

Introduction to Acting is a studio course exploring the fundamentals of the art and craft of acting. In a safe and collaborative environment, the class will investigate embodied practices, theater games, and acting exercises in order to prepare the body and mind for expressive vocal, physical, and emotionally connected storytelling. Drawing on the methodologies of Spolin, Hagen, Stanislavsky, Chekhov, and other acting visionaries, students will practice performance skills, improvisation, monologues, audition techniques, script and character analysis, ensemble and partner work. Through readings, live performance viewings, writing, and performance opportunities, students will deepen their understanding of acting and the Theater while gaining confidence and proficiency as both public speakers and performers. No prior acting experience is necessary.
