PSYCHOPATHOLOGY FIELDWORK
Course Description
An applied study of psychopathology. Students spend the equivalent of one day (6-8 hours) per week over the course of the semester (11 weeks) working in a practicum assignment, e.g., outpatient clinic; program for children with learning disabilities, hyperactivity, or autism; mental hospital or institution for people diagnosed with mental retardation. As most mental health services agencies tend to be open during the hours of 9am to 3:30pm, students should leave one day free in their schedules to accommodate fieldwork placement. Like all fieldwork courses, this requires a substantial term paper based on library research from professional psychology journals integrated with the practicum experience. In addition to the hours spent at the practicum agency, students also attend class on campus every week. Due to obligations to community agencies and their clients, admission to fieldwork placements is at the discretion of the psychology faculty.
