HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Course Description
This topic-focused seminar course explores contemplative-based wellness. It addresses the challenges and successes of teaching yoga and wellness strategies in and out of the classroom. Activities will include seminar discussion and guidance on effective wellness strategies, focusing on both theory and practice. The students in the course will learn to apply a variety of strategies and concepts to enhance the health and wellness of others, developing and teaching an integrated wellness lesson. The associated embodied learning will provide students with skill and practices for themselves and prepare them to share with others. Each week students will read a detailed overview of the week’s topic from the text, along with seminal and well-constructed research papers that illustrate the work that addresses the knowledge on that topic. Students will choose a topic in Health and Wellness to research for a final paper. Original experimental research, case studies, and literature reviews are encouraged. Reflection assignments encourage students to reflect on their own state of wellness, what is working for them and the steps that they might take to maximize wellness across all eight areas of Health and Wellness.
