FAMILY CENTERED PRIMARY CARE PRACTICUM IV
Course Description
This course will provide the Family Nurse Practitioner Student with clinical experiences to provide advanced nursing care to children, adolescents, and childbearing families in family care settings and the community. Students will perform advanced health assessment, order appropriate lab diagnostics and interpret findings to manage the care of a pregnant/postpartum woman. In addition, the FNP student will provide anticipatory guidance, teaching and prescribe appropriate medications within the FNP scope of practice. Students will explore relevant theories as they relate to health promotion, family stages, and family communication patterns. The student will integrate advanced clinical knowledge in the care and nursing management of children of various ages and provide evidence-based interventions to promote health, communication and optimal functioning across the family life cycle. Students will analyze the impact of acute and chronic illness on the family system. This course involves 180 hours of clinical experience (130 hours of pediatrics, 50 hours of women’s health) in the role of a nurse practitioner.
