APPLIED MUSIC: JUNIOR RECITAL

Music (MUSI)Arts, Humanities and Education

Course Description

This one-on-one course serves to give substantial experience in music performance and concert production by preparing a 30-45-minute recital that will take place at the end of the semester. The repertoire will be chosen by the instructor and student. Students are encouraged to include a variety of musical genres by various creators (possibly including original compositions and/or arrangements), perform on a variety of instruments (including vocals), and perform both solo and group pieces with guest musicians. The student will prepare the music for the recital through fourteen weekly 55-minute lessons alongside daily practicing on their own. In addition, the student, assisted by the instructor, will produce the concert, including booking a venue, organizing logistics (e.g. instruments, amplification, chairs, etc.), coordinating with guest musicians (if applicable), scheduling practice and rehearsal times, coordinating other needed personnel (e.g. sound engineer, light designer), coordinating A/V documentation of the recital, and planning and executing a promotion plan (e.g. flyers, social media). An essential goal of this course is to complete tasks within the determined time-frame as a preparation for professional careers. Course fee required.
