GENOCIDE, FILM AND MEDIA

History (HIST)Arts, Humanities and Education

Course Description

Genocide, often called "the crime of crimes," compels significant cultural and political attention, as we wrestle with its legacies and dangers. This class explores the use of audiovisual and digital media to foment, resist, commemorate, and explain modern genocides. Films and other media will be selected from multiple cultures and settings. From year to year, students should expect the focus of this course to shift slightly with regard to the types of media and the specific genocides that are given fullest attention. This course is writing intensive.
