GOOD & EVIL IN DESIGN FILM & VISUAL MEDIA
Course Description
FORMERLY CNTP-328: From the anti-Semitic posters of the Third Reich to advertisements and commercials selling luxury products assembled by forced child labor in Africa and Asia, there exists an ethical paradox associated with visual representations in 20th century design, film, and media. This course explores the power of visual images contained in these mediums and the ethical questions they often raise. Viewed through the lens of global history, culture, geography, religion, philosophy, economics, and politics, students explore reactions and responses to visual images contained within design, film and media. Students parse the meaning, intent, and purpose behind these images and in so doing develop an understanding of how the perception of good and evil is often polarized among peoples.
