INTRODUCTION TO ANTHROPOLOGY
Anthropology (ANTH)Social Sciences and Social Work
Course Description
Anthropology is the study of human diversity. It emphasizes the role of culture in shaping human adaptations and actions. This course will introduce students to the methods, theories and basic concepts of the field. Students will learn to use cultural relativism to understand cultural differences across many dimensions of human life using case studies from around the world. Thus, students will be challenged to question their assumptions about what is "natural" for humans. The course will also address the question of how anthropology can help us comprehend contemporary world problems such as social and economic inequality.
