It is essential that all theater practitioners have access to tools, methods, and techniques to interpret texts for performance, as this is fundamental to transforming texts into productions. This course introduces and applies methods for analyzing texts intended for performance. We will read texts from the diverse times and places and with diverse voices and identities and explore various tools in order to best understand them. We will employ close reading and methodologies that will help students understand the relationships between reading a text and making creative choices for production.
