CASE MANAGEMENT AND THE RECOVERY ECOSYSTEM
Course Description
Case Management and the Recovery Ecosystem course will provide students with an overview of case management services relevant to people with substance use disorders considering the entire recovery ecosystem. This course is grounded in a social justice lens and approaches to practice that require critical thinking, reflection, and action. The course will review four commonly referenced models of case management including: broker/generalist, strengths perspective, assertive community treatment, and clinical/rehabilitation. Approaches to case management will be rooted in an ecological systems approach with emphasis on risk and protective factors from the lens of structures and their impact on recovery. The value of community resources and community involvement for those with substance use issues will be stressed.
