This advanced course studies the tensions and relationship between civilian elites, military elites, and mass society in a variety of political contexts. This examination of the political role of the military takes a broad view as well as focuses specifically on germane case studies: Russia and the former Soviet context, Israel, China, Latin America, and the United States.
