DIGITAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Music (MUSI)Arts, Humanities and Education

Course Description

Using a variety of MIDI hardware and software, this course focuses on the creation of music using spontaneous solo and group improvisations, re-imaginations of existing music, and formal, scored compositions for digital instruments. Students will create works both to be pre-recorded and to be performed in real time, and will lead the class in the performance of their formal scores. Heavy emphasis will be on every and all aspects of performance as a genre unto itself. Students can work within any digital platform they choose, and may connect other instruments of their choice to create sound by interfacing these with their laptops. The final concert will be open to the public and feature student performances of their original works, their re-imaginations of existing works, spontaneous improvisations, and other modes of music creation, and is a requirement for the class. Course fee required.
