GERMAN HISTORY
Course Description
This is a general survey of German history, from the earliest tribal origins of the "Germanic" peoples to the current Bundesrepublik within a unified Europe. The course will pay particular attention to the period 1789-1945, and to the development of German national identity. Topics that will receive a special focus include: the Englightenment, the Napoleonic Wars, the rise of Socialism, the Nazi period, and the Cold War.
