Course Description

From the French Revolution to the scientific breakthroughs that transformed the world, this course addresses the tumultuous 19th century. Course topics include: nationalism, romanticism, the industrial revolution, socialism, feminism, the scientific revolution, and imperialism. Students will complete this course with an understanding of the major issues and developments of the European 19th century. By requiring students to examine all of these topics and the issues they raise, and to demonstrate competence by writing about and discussing them, this course fulfills the Historical Perspectives category of the General Education curriculum.
