YOGA ANATOMY

Course Description

This course explores the anatomy and physiological knowledge necessary for the yoga practitioner or teacher. We explore the functional systems of the body through visual, written and physical practice. Each class includes substantial yoga practice that illustrates the anatomical principles addressed in the reading and instruction. We study the concept of the “converging histories”, both personal and evolutionary, which are integrated in our own bodies, and learn to
see the bodies of others as both alike and also unique. The course focuses on the structure and function of the major bones and muscles of the body, then applies that knowledge to an understanding of the proper alignment, benefits and cautions in asana practice. This course meets the Yoga Alliance anatomy requirements for yoga teacher certification.
