AVIAN ECOLOGY

Environmental Science (ENSC) Theoretical & Applied Science

Course Description

This course combines lectures, case studies, field activities and a variety of assignments to provide students with deeper understanding and experience about the wild bird populations and avian ecology in our region. Classroom activities, field trips and independent research projects (for which each student conducts field observations, gives a presentation and writes a paper about one species) are closely linked to provide the background and authentic learning experiences that help students better understand avian ecology and work done by wildlife professionals who work with birds. Topics include behavioral ecology, population ecology and management, conservation, feeding ecology, predator/prey interactions, niche, habitat and substrate selection, completion and migration.
