Course Description
PERL is a widely used, flexible and powerful programming language, especially for web applications. This course will introduce the basics of PERL (Practical Extraction and Report Language) to students through programming exercises and reading assignments from the text. Topics covered in the course will include data & variable types, operators, basic loops and control structures, subroutines, list and
array processing, hashes, regular expressions, text parsing and formatting, file and directory manipulation and PERL/CGI (Common Gateway Interface). Students will learn how to develop and implement basic PERL programs on the web. The course is designed for students interested in adding a powerful tool to their programming arsenal and exposing students to techniques that will be valuable in their future courses/careers.
